Quartz under stress: Raman calibration and applications of metamorphic inclusions to geobarometry

Abstract. An experimental calibration of the shifts three major Raman peaks quartz with hydrostatic pressure and uniaxial differential stress is presented, implications for their use in geobarometry based on spectroscopy inclusions are discussed. The position 206 cm−1 peak depends only P, its dependence recalibrated a peak-fitting procedure that more adequate barometry than previous calibrations. 128 464 P also σ, which can be determined from these two knowing peak. results obtained here different those inferred previously first-principles calculations. present provides direct relationships between stress, simple formulation residual assuming along c axis inclusions.
